On the wall with "off-the-wall" Color!

I LOVE to have our nautical chart wallpaper displayed in classy venues!

The restaurant had multiple walls with various size surfaces for their walls. Here is a partial layout plan we created for a portion of their murals.

That’s why I’m delighted to be in the newly remodeled restaurant of the Madison Beach Hotel.  We are proudly displayed on the walls thanks to our association with Kevin Curran of Curran Design LLC in Boston, and of course, the Madison Beach Hotel and Restaurant!

This particular job was not easy; the owners of the hotel had very specific ideas in mind and it was Kevin’s job to interpret their interest to a finished work on the walls – not to mention all the other décor responsibilities of the restaurant remodel.

Here is a sample of how we went about the color changes:

We used a series of small layouts, then recolored the land, water, and map text to specifications.

For us, the key was digital color-substitutions.  We substituted six new colors in the chart to achieve this look. Also, the space was challenging; narrow in some areas, wide in the others, but in all, trying to achieve the perfect balance between landforms and ocean.  This was a project that took a full six months to make everything work.

As you may surmise, I work with many interior design people. Almost 75 percent of my business now comes from interior designers. Kevin was among the very best that I’ve worked with. The restaurant was not an easy job, but Kevin was always there to work with the owners and me in achieving the perfect effect. If you are considering hiring a designer, I heartily recommend him to you!

The next time you are in the Madison, Connecticut area, take a spin over to the beach, walk into the Madison Beach Hotel Restaurant and enjoy a delicious meal.  Their restaurant will supply the food, but Kevin and I will provide the stylish views of the Connecticut Coastline on nautical chart wallpaper, re-colored to perfection!

Notice how the colors of the new counter top  match the new colors of the nautical chart wallpaper!  Our wallpaper can be created so that the new colors of the nautical chart tie in with the other and various colors in a room.

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
